Although tennis is thought of as an individual sport, it is often played in a “team” context. The team may be your doubles partner, the high school or college team you are a part of or the club team that competes in league play. When working well, team cohesion leads to camaraderie, group training, support and cooperation among team members. This likely adds to the enjoyment of participation and the effectiveness of the team as a whole.

So how does team cohesion develop in tennis? What is the role of the coach, captain and members? What are the specific behaviors of individual members that lead to a positive team spirit?
