Hypnosis is a specialized treatment approach used in counseling and therapy to help people make changes and adjustments in how they think, feel and behave.

Hypnosis is a combination of relaxation and suggestion. When your body and mind are relaxed, you can focus more fully and are more receptive to making desired changes in how you think, feel and behave.

During the first session, we briefly discuss your history, current situation, goals you would like to accomplish and educate you about the nature of hypnosis. This is accomplished through talking with you and having you complete a brief series of questionnaires.

Together, we will discuss the kinds of suggestions that might be helpful in your particular case and answer any questions or concerns you might have regarding the process.

During the second session, you will be taught how to get into a relaxed state (sometimes called a trance) and receive a series of initial suggestions.

While hypnosis can be rapid and is safe, it is NOT a quick fix or magic. Hypnotic treatment consists of a series of sessions usually held once or twice a week. With each session, the suggestions are strengthened and new ones gradually added until your goals have been met.

It is recommended that you plan to tape record the hypnosis sessions and listen to them daily on your own between office visits.
